Behind the art of the blog you all read on a week-to-week basis is a one day experience like none other: Friday. Every Friday since January we have met as a class to review work, constructively criticize certain points, make adjustments, and continue to grow. In the following paragraphs I’m going to take you on a visual tour through words of how a normal Friday goes when curator of naturetech, Mary Tinti drives those 2 miles over to Fitchburg State.
The video team is usually out shooting and filming on Fridays so approximately 15-18 students are in the spacious room on the 2nd floor of the Conlon Building preparing for our client (Mary Tinti) and professor (Rob Carr.) Upon Mary’s arrival the two teams (blog team and catalog team) make brief small talk with our client and catch up on how everything has been over the last week. Once Rob says "go" however, the day has started.
The catalog team usually takes the podium first with high hopes of some positive feedback over their previous week’s work. The team presents their work to Mary and Rob and at the conclusion the attack begins. Whether the attack is with excitement or disgust, the catalog team has been through it all. They have had work that has been completely tossed and thrown away, and some that have now become very high caliber pieces. For about 45 minutes to an hour, Mary and Rob give feedback on each and every point of the work. Both Mary and Rob cover every detail and the catalog team takes rigorous notes on the improvements they need to make or the things they need to keep the same. During this time the blog group is stationed behind Mary and Rob and are quietly chatting about our own stuff and commenting on the work being presented. Once the catalog team is done, it’s our turn to approach the stand.
We start with projecting our blog onto the screen to show Mary and Rob all the work we have done to the blog and the coinciding posts. The blog site you are reading this on today has had every detail looked at and tried until it fit our client’s eye to the T. From the word and hyperlink colors to whether or not a line or box should be added around text, this whole website has had numerous overhauls and tweaks throughout the last 11 weeks.
At the conclusion of our meeting time together (12:30-3:15pm), both teams exit the classroom with a whole new week's worth of work to get done as a team, but no class is done until Rob Car’s famous line he recites at the end of every class time together "Thank you for tolerating me today and have a great day.”
