Document Design on Me

Coming back from a long winter vacation back home in Connecticut and easing back into the semester during the first week of classes, I had no clue what this Friday 12:30-3:15 p.m. Document Design class would entail with Rob Carr. Having Rob now for my 4th class, I had a pretty good idea that this would be taking me far out of my comfort zone once again. Like the Rob Carr I have come to know, I wasn’t let down and have blasted through more layers of my comfort zone once again, but have also reached new peaks. Starting off with a client project and a stealthy workload to begin the semester seemed overwhelming at first but has now grown into one of the biggest learning experiences for my college and professional career.

Coming from a professional and public speaking standpoint, I continue to grow throughout this program with the new encounters I have. Last semester, I worked with Rob Carr and learned more technology based information to the point where I can now fully operate and run my own online blog. For this blog I have helped teammates with some of the technical aspects of Wix.com (the blog’s base), but have also picked up more valuable information that will help me continue to progress as a motivational speaker. Tina, Sarah, Angela, and Mike have all helped push my skills as a writer and editor. By seeing posts constantly being posted by fellow teammates, I am consistently pushing myself to better my writing. Besides my classmates, and Rob Carr’s great way of pushing me to continue to break out of comfort zones, Mary Tinti, (FAM’s curator), and the naturetech experience have helped my growth as an inspiring professional.

What I have found over 21 years is that many people avoid experiences they don’t classify as something that they would enjoy. Unfortunately, viewing art was not one of my favorite things to do. After meeting Mary Tinti and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm for the Fitchburg Art Museum, and for this semester working with naturetech, I decided to buy into the class and the experience. This has taken me on a whirlwind of changes in my own personal life. After numerous visits to the Fitchburg Art Musuem and working so closely with naturetech, the artists, and diving into all these blogs, I have found a hidden passion for the beauty and viewing of art and discovering all these hidden stories and techniques behind each work of art. Naturetech has helped develop a true respect for artists, not only at the Fitchburg Art Musuem, but for artists and all their work around the world. Art is such a form of beauty and shows the true feelings and passions of the artists. In the naturetech exhibit I was able to discover the passion behind the art with Nathalie Miebach, Cristi Rinklin, and Michelle Samour. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have spent the hours I did on a previous blog (Weaving into Art) and have studied something such as basket weaving as art!

The experiences gained when venturing out of your comfort zone are some of the most rewarding ones you can and will ever experience. I recommend you take a page from my book and you take a chance today by venturing outside of your comfort zone. You will be surprised by the rewarding, and highly valuable experiences you will gain from doing so!
